Caving Tips
For Gua Tempurung Dry
Package Tour

Dress comfortably (consider
T-shirts and long pants) and wear comfortable
shoes or sandals with straps and good grip.
Hiking boots are the best as they provide
better support for the ankles.

Bring mineral water. It is best to carry the
bottle/s and other personal stuff in small
backpack.

Camera and torchlight are optional. Your guide
will bring a torch so you don’t need to bring
one. But if you come in a big group,
additional torchlight will come in handy.
For the Dry and Wet
Package Tour

Wear comfortable clothes,
shoes and socks. Poly-pro or wool types of
clothes are the best for caving. For pants,
try old Dockers. Denim tends to constrict
movement but it can work. Make sure your shoes
have good grip. Hiking boots are the best for
better traction.

Gloves and kneepads are
highly recommended.

Bring mineral water and
other personal stuff in small backpack.

expensive ones. Put camera in watertight
plastic or container. It is a good idea to put
everything in water-proof plastic bags so
items won’t get soaked.

gua tempurung
Gua Tempurung (Tempurung
Cave) has existed since early 8000 B.C. and it
is one of the larger cave systems found in the
scenic limestone hills of Perak. In fact, it is
the largest natural limestone structure in
Peninsular Malaysia.

The cave is located in Lembah Tempurung (Tempurung
Valley) near Gopeng, Perak, Malaysia. It
is 25 km to the south of Ipoh, the capital
of the state of Perak
It is a massive cavern inside Gunung
Tempurung (Tempurung Mountain) standing at
497 metres high. It is visible from the
North-South Expressway near Gopeng.
Karst cave. It is a cave of marble limestone
(calcite calcium) of the Kinta limestone
type.
More than 400 million years old.

120 metres.
Five gigantic domes with ceilings resembling
coconut shell (tempurung), hence its name
Gua Tempurung. Gua is the Malay word for
cave.
The five domes form the showcase galleries
beginning with Golden Flowstone Cavern,
Gergasi (Giant) Cavern, Tin Mine Cavern,
Alam (Universe) Cavern and Fallen Warrior
and Battlefield Cavern.
The river is called Sungai Gua Tempurung.
The river passage runs about 1.6 km through
the cave inside Gunung Tempurung.

Gua Tempurung is an impressive cave with
beautiful speleotherms like stalagmites,
stalactites, rim stone pools, curtains,
straws, calcite crystals and pillars. There
are also majestic columns of marble inside
its huge cavern honeycombed with smaller
caves of different dimensions. The cave
holds mystery and intrigue that leave one
curious about its deep, dark secrets dating
back to 400 million years ago.
